Remains of Andrew Kinsman found at Mallory Crescent

At least six victims identified from remains found in planter boxes seized from property, police say

Toronto police confirmed Jan. 8 they have identified the remains of Andrew Kinsman, a victim of alleged serial killer Bruce McArthur.

Det.-Sgt. Hank Idsinga gave an update on the McArthur investigation on scene at 53 Mallory Cres., where investigators had seized over a dozen garden planters from the backyard of the Leaside neighbourhood home in January.

“We identified some of the body parts from those planters from here as belonging to Andrew Kinsman,” Idsinga said.

Idsinga added the remains of at least six people have now been found in planters on the property, but no other identifications have been released. Other planters seized from other locations in the city are still being investigated.

Kinsman has been missing since June 26, 2017. His friends and family have been unwavering in their efforts to find him.

“We have found him, but will always be missing him,” the latest message read on the group’s website Thursday afternoon.

Thorncliffe resident McArthur was a landscaper who worked on the Mallory property and at up to 30 other sites across Toronto, according to police.

Excavation of the Mallory Crescent property is expected to start within the next day. Investigators have been warming the soil in the backyard for days, in preparation for the digging.

A police command post, a van belonging to the Forensic Identification Services, and an area field command vehicle were parked along Mallory Crescent while groups of police walked in and out of the home.

“We are going start digging up in the backyard and that will probably be ongoing for a week or two,” Idsinga said.

Police have finished examining the interior of the residence, and said the homeowners will be able to return shortly.
