Pickup and dropoff zone extended at Davisville school

Parents of kids at Davisville Junior Public School and the Metropolitan School for the Deaf will soon have more parking on Millwood Road, as Toronto and East York Community Council decided on Jan. 15 to extend the pickup and dropoff area.

The initial recommendation came from the city’s transportation services department, which suggested extending the area on the south side of Millwood Road eastward by 35 metres, so the pickup and dropoff zone would span the northern border of the school property.

All other parking parameters, including permit parking and no-parking zones, will be adjusted accordingly.

Decision on parking prohibition deferred

Toronto and East York Community Council deferred a decision on disallowing parking on the north side of Montclair Avenue, from Spadina Road to its eastern end, between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday to Friday. The issue will be discussed at a meeting on Feb. 25.

The city report cites complaints from residents regarding ease of two-way traffic flow during those 11 hours. Current rules disallow parking from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., and allow for a one-hour maximum from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Councillor Josh Matlow, Ward 22, said he deferred the item a month because some residents are still opposed to the change. The extra time allows for Montclair Avenue residents to reach a consensus on how street parking should be handled.

Dell Park speed reduction denied

North York Community Council, at the suggestion of Transportation Services, decided against lowering the speed limit on Dell Park Avenue, between Bathurst Street and Shermount Avenue, from 50 km/h to 40 km/h.

The summary from the staff report concludes that lowering the speed limit is not warranted based on the city’s policy regarding 40 km/h zones.

Six metres of parking removed by Allenby Junior PS

The 10-minute parking zone on St. Clements Avenue, at the north side of Allenby Junior Public School, has been shortened by six metres to allow for an accessible loading zone.

According to the staff report, the installation of the loading zone at the school was required. The westernmost part of the 10-minute parking zone will be removed and changed to the loading zone. Parking will still be available in all other areas where permitted.
