Thorncliffe Park

Thorncliffe Park is the name of the large, mostly residential neighbourhood bordered on the north by Eglinton Avenue, on the west by Laird Drive and cradled in a bend in the Don River to the south.

One of Toronto’s first planned high-rise communities, Thorncliffe Park is densely populated and highly multicultural. The twin Leaside towers here are the tallest buildings in the region and are home to many local residents.

The community has considerable parkland and many other amenities including community centers, schools and easy access to public transportation. The elementary school here, Thorncliffe Park Public School, is North America’s largest elementary school with 1900 students. It has been expanded once and there are plans to expand it further.

Despite being a relatively high-unemployment, low-income area the crime rate here is very low and there is a very strong sense of community among its residents.
