Uber driver charged with midtown kidnapping
Police have arrested and charged an Uber driver with kidnapping and forcible confinement near Yonge and Eglinton.
Police say they were called to Eglinton Avenue East and Dunfield Avenue on May 21 at 4:02 p.m., after an 18-year-old woman order an Uber ride.
She was picked up by a male driver, who engaged her in inappropriate conversation. Police allege the man made unwanted advances, and when she declined and asked to be let out of the car, he refused and attempted to forcibly take her to a private location.
The woman managed to escape and called police.
On May 22 at 11:21 a.m., police arrested 24-year-old Sukhbaj Singh of Belleville and charged him with forcible confinement, kidnapping, and assault.
