Attempted murder charge in bus stop stabbing

A 30-year-old man is facing an attempted murder charge after a man was stabbed in the head Dec. 26 at a Bathurst Street and
Lawrence Avenue West bus stop, in what police call an unprovoked, random act of violence.

The 19-year-old victim, believed to be a post-secondary student, was waiting for a bus after finishing a shift at a nearby gas station when a suspect approached him, pulled out a knife and stabbed him.

Police say the weapon penetrated his skull and brain. He was taken to Sunnybrook Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

According to Det. Sgt. Sean Brosnan of 32 Division the victim was put into a medically induced coma.

The victim was still in hospital, but an update on his condition was not available at press time.

Police made an arrest shortly after the stabbing at a Neptune Drive and Bathurst address. A weapon was not recovered, and police are appealing to area residents to be on the lookout when shovelling snow or when the snow melts.

“If they find a knife around Neptune and Bathurst then give us a call,” Brosnan said. “It could appear, if he threw it or tossed it aside.”

Sean Carter has been charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault.

The case is similar to an attack that occurred on Eglinton Avenue West earlier last year, when a man was stabbed in the head while waiting for a bus at Gardiner Road.

Brosnan said police are looking into possible connections.

“There have been at least two others in the city that had a similar MO that we’ll be looking at,” he said.
