Elgie House design adopted, new BIAs approved

While the ongoing debates at city council over SmartTrack and the Scarborough subway grabbed the headlines, the city was taking care of other matters — including midtown initiatives — as well once the first meeting of city council got under way on Tuesday.

The city rubber stamped an approval for the design plans for a development on the site of the Elgie House, at 262 Bessborough Dr. in Leaside.

The Elgie House is a heritage property and will be moved to another location on the same property, while two new homes will be built on the portion fronting Bessborough Drive.

The city also approved two new midtown business improvement areas: the Midtown Yonge BIA, covering the south-of-Eglinton section of Yonge Street between Frobisher Avenue and Soudan Avenue, and the yet-to-be-named BIA that will serve the stretch of Bayview Avenue between Soudan and Davisville avenues.
