No-turn-on-red rule at Millwood-McRae intersection to be expedited, city decides

The city is putting a stop to motorists making right turns on red lights at the intersection of Millwood Road and McRae Drive.

City council voted in favour of the change on Aug. 25, following a proposal by Ward 26 councillor John Parker in response to a July 16 accident that killed Georgia Walsh at that intersection.

The 6-year-old daughter of Conservative Party of Canada president John Walsh was struck and killed by a van making a right turn off of Millwood and onto McRae. The driver was later charged with failing to stop at a red light and careless driving.

Parker told the Town Crier in early August he had been assured by city staff the process would be expedited so the change can be made as soon as possible.
