Opinions to be heard on Yonge-Eglinton proposal

Yonge-Eglinton residents will get to share their opinion on the proposed 68-storey mixed-use tower at 1 Eglinton Ave. East during a community consultation meeting on Monday, May 11.

The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Northern District Library, 40 Orchard View Blvd.

South Eglinton Residents’ and Ratepayers’ Association, Ward 22 councillor Josh Matlow and city planning staff have expressed significant concerns with the proposal, which includes 672 residential units and 10,947 square metres of commercial space, including ground-floor retail, and would be the tallest building in the Yonge-Eglinton neighbourhood.

Matlow said he is hoping to see residents get questions answered, and to express any specific concerns “so that the developer and our planning department get this project right.”

“I’m particularly interested in how the retail element at grade will connect with the street,” he added. “I want it to be an inviting and vibrant streetscape, rather than… a dead wind tunnel like the Canada Square across the street.”
