Shops close, TD expands at St. Clair Centre

Some longtime store owners at the St. Clair Centre will be saying goodbye in the near future.

The TD Canada Trust bank branch at the building on the northeast corner of Yonge Street and St. Clair Avenue will be expanding, and renovations will be made, forcing the closure of a handful of stores, some of which have been there decades.

Signs plaster the windows of Wellington Jewellers announcing their closure, coming at the end of January, after 27 years of business.

But at least one other, Second Cup, isn’t waiting that long. Its final day of business was Friday. Store owner Juho Kim, who has run the coffee shop there for nearly 11 years, says he’ll miss the customers, some of whom have been coming since the time he opened.

“We have built up a beautiful clientele,” Kim said on his last day, still smiling from behind the cash register. “We’ll miss them all.”

Jewellery store Vivah and clothing store Koinonia are also likely to close amid renovations.

Renovations are being done by building owner CBRE Limited. An employee at TD Canada Trust confirmed they would be expanding and renting the space made by the renovations.
