Sign up online for a piece of local history
Owning a piece of your neighbourhood’s history could cost you as little as $30.
On April 28, the city put 100 of its decommissioned street signs up for auction online, where they will stay for 60 days. About 20 new signs will be posted weekly.
All bids start at $30.
Many local street signs were up on the first day.
They include Conrad Avenue, Bracondale Hill Road, Austin Terrace, Duplex Avenue, Hillsdale Avenue West, Elm Ridge Drive, and a sign for Mount Pleasant Road autographed by Mayor Rob Ford.
The city said it replaces about 1,800 signs a year due to wear and tear, and expects about 200–300 of those will be added to the purchasable inventory.
About 1,750 signs will be made available, with sales going well into next year.
