Picnic and fireworks to celebrate Canada

Tomorrow is a day of celebration in the east end with a parade, festival and fireworks in East York and a picnic in Woodbine Park, followed by the city’s biggest fireworks in Ashbridges Bay. More about the Leslieville-Beaches festivities in the Things To Do column.

Leslieville Tree Fest hits new heights

Despite the threat of rain, Leslieville’s tree fest was back on June 15 at Leslie Grove Park educating and entertaining people about the need to replenish Toronto’s tree canopy. Some creative stilt performers were a hit with the kids this year. See the story and pictures.

Lots to do at Leslieville tree fest Saturday

Councillor Paula Fletcher hosts the Leslieville Tree Festival on June 15 at Leslie Grove Park. The celebration includes a climbing wall, kids crafts, games, exhibits and a chance to pick up a free shrub. See more in the Things To Do listing.

Craft beer and ribs fest

Also this weekend is the return of the Beaches Ribs Fest, which takes over Woodbine Park from June 14 to 17. It’s a barbecue and food festival complete with a craft beer market and summer cocktails. Admission is free. The festival includes live music, a kids zone, and games. See the website for more.

Jurassic Beach moves indoor for Raptors final

Due to inclement weather, the party is moving indoors for the sixth, and hopefully last, game of the NBA finals. The Raptors could win it all with a victory tonight in the series, which Toronto leads 3-2. Beach and Leslieville-area fans will be cheering the team on from inside the Alliance Cinemas at 1651 Queen St. E. “Jurassic Beach,” hosted by Councillor Brad Bradford, was previously held outdoors at Woodbine Park.

Police seek ID of man in break-ins, bike thefts

Yesterday police released a photo of a man wanted in their investigation of a series of break-ins and bicycle thefts across Leslieville. See more details in the story.

Watch Raptors at Jurassic Beach (Woodbine Park)

Jurassic Beach rises at Woodbine Park tonight at 8:30 p.m. for Game 4 of the NBA finals on a big screen. Local councillor Brad Bradford, the Beach Village BIA and the Richards Group are hosting the event. The park is at 1695 Queen St. E., south of the intersection of Queen, Kingston Road, Eastern Avenue and Northern Dancer Boulevard. The game starts at 9 p.m.

And the party returns on Monday night, same time, same place, for Game 5.
