Man arrested for Moore Park shooting

A 34-year-old Toronto man has been arrested after turning himself in for the shooting of a man who was found in the Moore Park area on Friday.

The shooting came just days after another midtown shooting, the gruesome murder behind the Minto towers near Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue.

In the Moore Park shooting, a man in his 50s was found beaten and shot on Glenrose Avenue, one street south of the intersection of St. Clair Street and Mt. Pleasant Road, on June 10 at about 9 a.m . Workers at a nearby house were among the first to spot the man lying on the asphalt suffering from his injuries.

The man wasn’t shot where he was found, according to police. He was shot and beaten before being left on Glenrose, Const. Allyson Douglas-Cook said.

Neither the victim nor the arrested man are from the midtown area, police say.

Residents in the area said they were shocked when they heard a shooting took place in their neighbourhood, especially a few days after Vancouver resident Sukhvir Deo was gunned down in his Range Rover on Cowbell Lane, just south of one of the busiest intersections in Toronto.

The victim suffered multiple hits to his head with a metal object, what police believe to be a gun, and was later shot in his leg. The victim was transferred to a nearby trauma centre without any life-threatening injuries.

Denoy Bennett was arrested on Sunday after he surrendered at 53 Division. He appeared in court on Monday and has been charged with aggravated assault, discharge firearm with intent to endanger life and possession of a weapon.
