Ex-teacher charged for child porn

Stephen Joseph Schacter
FORMER TEACHER Stephen Joseph Schacter, who worked at Eitz Chaim schools and United Synagogue Day School, has been charged with possession of child pornography.

A 55-year-old former teacher has been arrested after police say he was looking at child pornography at an employment services office.

Police were initially called to the Employment and Social Services Centre at Lawrence Square, near Allen Road and Lawrence Avenue West, at 11:30 a.m. on Nov. 6, where it’s alleged a man was viewing child porn images on a public computer.

A search warrant was executed in North York on Wednesday.

Police say the evidence they seized have them concerned the accused may have had inappropriate contact with children in the past.

Stephen Joseph Schacter has been charged with possession of child pornography.

Schacter was an elementary school teacher at the Eitz Chaim schools from 1986 to 2004. He was also an administrator at United Synagogue Day School on Bathurst Street south of Eglinton Avenue West from 2005 to 2009, and was a private tutor for two years after that.
