Man collecting phony donations in Leaside
Leasiders have been put on fraud alert after a resident was approached at home by a man collecting phony donations.
Don Valley West Councillor John Parker sent out a notice yesterday after the resident reported a young man, possibly in his 20s, came to his door recently and said he is running a half-marathon at York University this weekend to raise money for breast cancer.
The man, who told the resident he lived on Hanna Road, then asked for a donation.
The resident phoned York University and checked in with the athletics faculty about any events happening this weekend. According to the resident, York was unaware of any scheduled marathon.
