Parking enforcement officers assaulted, two charged

Two men face three charges in separate alleged assaults on parking enforcement officers in North Toronto.

The two incidents took place five days apart.

Police say the first happened at Yonge Street and Roslin Avenue, north of Lawrence Avenue on March 27. An officer issued a ticket to a vehicle for parking in a “no stopping” zone. A man got out of the car and threw a cup of hot coffee into the face of the officer, then fled the scene. The officer suffered first degree burns to his cheek.

Greg Sawyer, 32, was later arrested and charged with assault with a weapon, and assault causing bodily harm.

On April 1, police say a parking enforcement officer issued a ticket to a vehicle for parking on a sidewalk near Yonge Street and Orchard View Boulevard. A man then moved the vehicle into a “no stopping” area and was issued another ticket. The man allegedly shoved the officer, causing him to lose his balance. The man remained until police arrived.

Michael Franks, 49, was arrested and charged with assault.
