Teen stabbed outside of Riverdale CI

An 18 year old male suffered stab wounds to his lower back during an altercation outside Riverdale Collegiate this morning.

The teen, who has not been confirmed to be a Riverdale student, was rushed to St. Michael’s hospital where he was treated and then released.

According to Riverdale’s principal, Kenn Harvey, the victim was stabbed with a pen rather than a knife.

“We’re happy to know that there were no weapons brought near the school or onto the property,” he said.

Police, acting on a tip from the victim, brought a 16 year old Riverdale student into custody within half-an-hour of the incident. He was found at his nearby home.

According to Detective Staff Sergeant Ian Moyer of 55 Division the two teens were well known to each other.

“It wasn’t a big school stabbing,” said Moyer. “It was an altercation between the two that happened out on the street off school property.”

Nevertheless, Harvey stressed that it was a shocking to have it happen near his school.

“It’s upsetting to see for the community, because this is something that is not typical of this area,” he said.
