Warrant issued for double murders

An arrest warrant has been issued for a suspect in the Family Day double-murder of brothers Jerome and Justin Waterman.

Toronto Police say 18-year-old Don Johnson is wanted on two counts of first-degree murder for the shooting death that occurred in an underground parking garage of an apartment building at 325 Bogert Ave., south of Sheppard Avenue W. and between Yonge and Bathurst streets, on Feb. 20.

Justin Waterman, 18, died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds to the head and chest, while older brother Jerome, 22, died from multiple gunshot wounds to the head and back.

Police say Johnson is believed to be armed and dangerous and are warning people not to approach him but to call 911, if he is spotted.

Though Johnson is legally an adult, the photograph released by Toronto Police was obtained through judicial authorization because he was under 18 at the time the photograph was taken.

As a result, legal publication of the photograph expires June 2 at 2 p.m.

The Waterman brothers’ murders were this year’s seventh and eighth in the city, and the only double-homicide this year.

These murders are also the last two from February through April of this year not to have an arrest.
