THINGS TO DO

Book and brew and Highlanders too

Would you like a book with that beer? Radical Road Brewing Co. is launching a brand new Scottish ale on Robbie Burns Day, Jan. 25, in collaboration with an e-book release. The book celebrates the descendants of 400 families of Scottish heritage.

Included in the launch will be Fort York’s Fraser’s Highlanders, an 18th-century historical regiment, to pipe and present the haggis.  An honour guard will also be on site to celebrate Robbie Burns Day.

The evening begins a world premier for Book & Brew, an event which combines new world publishing tech with old world craft brewing.

“I believe this is the first time a beer company has incorporated an e-book into its label to enhance the experience of both crafts,” says Radical Road co-owner Julian Holland.

The e-book can be easily downloaded from Radical Road’s Clan Ale label barcode to a patron’s cell phone. The e-book, The Tribe Within,  is offered free with any purchase of Clan Ale.

The book is a study of the origin of a 2,000 year-old Celtic tribe and the 400 family surnames associated with it, says author Anthony Murphy Barrett — “a tale which has been lost for over a thousand years.”

Radical Road, at 1177 Queen St. East, is a craft brewery.  The event begins at 6:30 p.m.  Tickets are available at eventbrite.ca.
