Feb. 11: Free screening of Road to Mercy

The Fox Theatre, 2236 Queen St. E., hosts a screening of Road to Mercy, as well as Q&A with experts on Feb. 11.

It’s the first Docs at the Fox event of the year, with a focus on how to improve the assisted dying laws.

It’s free but you need to reserve a ticket online.

Doors open at 6:30 pm. Q&A starts at 7 pm. The film starts at 7:30 pm.

Guests include Maureen Taylor, a physician assistant at Michael Garron and associate clinical professor at McMaster University. She was co-chair of the Provincial Expert Advisory Group on Physician Assisted Death, and has been an advocate since the death of her husband Dr. Donald Low, who died of a brain tumour and wished until the end that he could have medical aid in dying.

Also taking part is Professor Kevin Reel, program director at the Joint Centre for Bioethics at U of T and current chair of the Canadian Association of Practising Healthcare Ethicists. He regularly works directly with individuals and families going through the process of choosing an assisted death.

The event is present by Nathaniel Erskine-Smith, MP for Beaches-East York.
