Bank celebrates with a donation

Staff at the Lawrence and Victoria Park CIBC celebrated the branch’s 50th anniversary on Dec. 16 by holding an open house and donating $10,000 to help empower youth in the community.

The donation to PACT, a charity dedicated to building peace in urban communities by helping at-risk youths to strive to reach their full potential, nearly doubles last year’s contribution, according to bank spokesperson Doug Maybee. The donation will be used in part to pay for the services of a Lifeplan Coach in 2010.

PACT spokesperson David Lockett says the donation comes at a time when funding for social programs is harder to come by, and that CIBC’s contribution will make a big difference in the lives of many young adults.

“This will really help high risk youths get on the right paths for life,” says Maybee.
