Water play area for Cedarvale Park

It might be difficult to imagine in the middle of winter, but families enjoying the heat in Cedarvale Park will have a new way to cool off this summer: a water play area is to be installed this year south of the park’s tennis courts, behind nearby Arlington Middle School.

Ward 21 Councillor Joe Mihevc says he was inspired by the community’s “dramatic demographic shifts,” which are attracting families to the Bathurst Street and St. Clair Avenue West area park.

“My goal has been to get a water play area… to refresh children on a hot summer’s day,” he said, admitting that while the proposal had strong support, its construction required a “very long” public consultation process and was discussed in one form or another for five years.

The additions are being funded by cash-in-lieu of parkland from nearby developments on 310 and 320 Tweedsmuir Ave. Construction will begin after the spring thaw and should be completed by the end of May.
