How much did your councillor spend?

Joe Mihevc was the biggest spender on city council for the first three quarters of 2014, according to figures released this week by the city clerk’s office.

The St. Paul’s Ward 21 councillor spent $33,578.59 from Jan. 1 to Sept. 30 this year, versus $4,106.11 spent by Peter Leon in Etobicoke Centre Ward 3, the lowest spender of those who served the full three quarters — except for Doug Ford in Etobicoke North Ward 2, who spent none.

Mihevc spent $21,294.34 of his total figure on constituency services and office expenses.

Don Valley West councillors Jaye Robinson, Ward 25, and John Parker, Ward 26, were also among the top in the city for spending, shelling out $28,103.59 and $28,247.47, respectively. Kristyn Wong-Tam, Ward 27, was not far behind them, spending $24,889.44.

Josh Matlow, in St. Paul’s Ward 22, finished in the middle of the pack, spending $18,178.40.

Outgoing Ward 16 councillor Karen Stintz was fifth lowest on the list of those who had seats as of Jan. 1, spending $12,069.90. Her Eglinton-Lawrence counterpart, Ward 15’s Josh Colle, finished just ahead of her after spending $12,134.12.

Because it was an election year, councillors’ constituency and office budgets cover from Jan. 1 to Nov. 30 only. They were allowed to spend $28,247.45 in that period. General expenses do not have a cap.
