Topham Park

Topham Park, in the northern part of eastern Toronto, is situated northeast of the triangle created by the intersection of St. Clair Avenue East (where it resumes on the eastern side of the Don Valley) and O’Connor Drive and is bordered on the east by Victoria Park Avenue.

The area was an apple orchard until 1944 when it was purchased by the crown and developed with War Veteran housing in mind. Many of the street names bear veteran-themed names, including the surnames of some of Canada’s early Victoria Cross honourees, one of whom was this area’s namesake.

Since its development, Topham Park has maintained a loyal, tight-knit and proud community.

The neighbourhood is home to a park by the same name that features several recreational facilities including a baseball diamond and a clubhouse. There is also a school in the area. Most of the commercial activity in this neghbourhood is at the corner of Victoria Park and St. Clair Avenues, where there is a group of shops and services catering to local residents.

A fuller profile of Topham Park is being developed and will appear in this place shortly. To contribute to the profile or to publish your own impressions or memories of life in this community, email the editors at stringers@mytowncrier.ca.
