Eglinton Park — a midtown community hub

In the heart of midtown, just west of Yonge Street along Eglinton Avenue West lies Eglinton Park.

The park is covered by large treed hills on the west side. These hills would be ideal for tobogganing but due to buildings near their base it’s not allowed. But the hills do offer an outstanding view of the flat lands below.

This flat terrain is well utilized with three baseball diamonds, two soccer fields, and a playground.

The park is used by a variety of different groups of people including dog walkers, mothers of young children, baseball and football teams or individuals that just want to relax and enjoy the natural environment.

The park is accessible with stairs along the west side running off Oriole Parkway. Public washrooms are housed in the maintenance shack in the middle of the park.

The North Toronto Memorial Community Centre is located on the south, east side of the park. This community centre plays a very active role in the neighbourhood. It offers a variety of activities for the young and old including indoor and outdoor swimming pools, tennis courts, a walking track, a weight room, a recreation room and a fitness/dance studio.

The community centre also reaches out to the community by providing listing boards with information about jobs, persons looking to buy and sell merchandise, a food and clothing drop box, lost and found box and a listing for homes for sale and apartments available for rent.

Permits can be obtained for show rooms in the common area of the centre for arts and crafts sales, puppet shows and other activities. An outdoor garden is located to the west of the centre and indoor and outdoor ice rinks are available throughout the winter.

The North Toronto Memorial Community Centre and Eglinton Park are essential corner stones in midtown. The park is available all year for people needing a short cut home or wanting to join a hockey or baseball league and the community centre is accessible for numerous activities and services.
