Oriole Parkway to be renovated to ease traffic

The city is poised to rearrange curbs and remove a traffic calming island on Oriole Parkway in a bid to make traffic flow through the area easier.

The proposal is part of a two-stage process that is meant to allow drivers travelling on Avenue Rd. easy access to Oriole Parkway, as well as keep commuters out of side streets.

The changes, which could be made as early as this fall, will also prevent cars from stopping and idling as they wait at a stop sign on Oriole Parkway and Chaplin Cres., is the word out of St. Paul’s Councillor Michael Walker’s office.

The proposed changes are to include the narrowing of Oriole Parkway between Imperial St. and Oxton Ave., construction of a median and realignment of curbs and the construction of a traffic island at Oxton Ave. The existing traffic island at Chaplin Cres. will also be removed.

Walker held a public meeting in June where members of local community groups attended and another public meeting is being held to allow residents to comment on the proposed changes. Members of Midtown community council will hear comments at its Sept. 17 meeting.
