TFS enjoys a Grade 2 Canada Lunch

With Canada’s official Flag Day being celebrated on Feb. 15 it seemed like an appropriate time for students at Toronto French School to reflect on a unique celebration of the country.

The Grade 2 classes of the Toronto French School recently celebrated Canada’s multicultural diversity with a lunch comprising dishes drawn from various regions across the country. Where else would you find Pacific salmon, pancakes and maple syrup, tarte au sucre, meatballs, fish sticks, and fresh vegetables?

Parents were invited to attend and contributed homemade dishes to the feast. The gymnasium was transformed into a mosaic of work and artifacts of a Canadian-theme created by the students; the students themselves were invited to wear clothes suggesting colours or images of Canada. Before the meal the entire company rose and sang the Canadian national anthem in both official languages and later on, the students were treated to a visit by the school of mascot (Tuffs the Cougar) who was bedecked in the Canadian flag.

The meal was the culmination of a cross-curricular unit based on Canada and studied in both French and English. The Canada Lunch gave the students a vivid memory of the diversity of their great country. Judging by the smiles and empty plates, they enjoyed every minute and every mouthful.

Vive le Canada!
