52-year-old man arrested after robberies of Davenport-area senior residences

A man has been arrested on April 29 after investigation of a series of robberies over a two-week period in apartments in the Davenport Road area.

Police were investigating incidents in which a man reportedly entered retirement residences and stole money, jewellery and other valuables.

Security camera images of a man wanted in the investigation were released by police on April 18.

On April 6 at about 5:48 p.m., a man allegedly broke into a seniors residence in the Yonge Street and Davenport Road area, went to the top floor and worked his way down the building, checking doorknobs to see if any had been left unlocked, He then broke into one of the units and stole money and credit cards, police said.

On April 13 at about 11:13 a.m., the same man entered a senior living residence in the Avenue Road and Davenport area to perform similar activities but this time when he entered a unit he was confronted by the home owner, an elderly man, according to police.

He reportedly identified himself as building security but was not believed. A verbal argument turned physical and the elderly man, who used a walker, was pushed. The home owner’s cellphone was stolen along with money and other valuables from the unit, police reported.

The robbery spree allegedly continued until April 19.

Mark Hardy, 52 of Toronto, has been charged with seven counts of break and enter, robbery and two counts of failure to comply with probation.

He is scheduled to appear in court on May 13.
