A room (or studio) of one's own

Now in its 16th year, the annual Beach Studio Tour and Sale gives art aficionados an intimate view into the lives of some of the neighbourhood’s artists.

Running Oct. 16–18, the free tour allows people a chance to visit the homes and studios of a myriad of artists practising such art forms as painting, sculpture, jewellery making and photography.

Twenty-three artists are participating this time around at 14 locations.

“The tour opens my work to all sorts of new people who haven’t seen it before,” says tour participant Elizabeth Berry.

Other artists this year include Lara Bazant, John Dowding, Annette Hansen, Charlene Serdan and Noriko Yamamoto.

Berry, who has lived in the Beach for 30 years, sees the tour as a way for different artists to interact and collaborate with each other.

Visitors also benefit, says Berry, who has shown her paintings around Ontario and in the Caribbean, as the tour offers them a chance to familiarize themselves with some of the area’s talent.

Plus a walk around one of the city’s most beautiful neighbourhoods, never hurt, Berry says.
