Dec. 4: Live-stream holiday concert from Grace Church

The Upper Canada Choristers and its Latin vocal ensemble Cantemos are presenting Comfort and Joy: A Holiday Offering, conducted by Laurie Evan Fraser, on Friday, Dec. 4 at 7:30 p.m.

This follows up on the choir’s live streamed Latin-American concert, Inti Ukana, on Oct. 2that attracted about 800 viewers in less than a week.

The holiday performance will be live-streamed from Forest Hill’s Grace Church on-the-Hill, with Cantemos and some choristers on stage, and the rest of the choir live via the internet. It will be accessible on YouTube and Facebook.

Admission is free but donations are welcome to cover expenses.

Further information will be posted on the choir’s website, or may be obtained by email  or by calling (416) 256-0510.

“We have programmed the joyous, sparkling sounds of Renaissance and Baroque music to bring great comfort to our singers and to our listeners as well,” conductor Evan Fraser says.

With Hye Won Cecilia Lee at the piano, the singers will perform the ever-inspiring “Gloria” by Antonio Vivaldi.

The choir will also premiere the song “Comfort and Joy,” with music by Evan Fraser and words by Jacqui Atkin, co-founders of the Choristers and Cantemos.  The song is dedicated to the memory of beloved tenor chorister Bill Briggs, who died in September after a lengthy illness.

Cantemos will sing three Christmas carols from Spain.

The audience will also be invited to sing along with some favourite carols.
