NDP snatch Davenport from Liberals

In the race for the open Davenport seat the NDP’s Jonah Schein looks to have taken the riding from the Liberals.

As of 10:43 Schein, who ran for councillor last fall in Ward 17, had brought in 44.4 percent of the vote with Liberal Cristina Martins polling second with 42.5 percent. Progressive Conservative candidate Kirk Russell is a distant third with 8.0 percent.

The riding had been represented by Liberal Tony Ruprecht since 1999, but the incumbent decided to retire from politics before the election was called. In May’s federal vote the NDP’s Andrew Cash ousted Liberal MP Mario Silva, beating him by over 10,000 votes.
