Go on a live-streamed Jane’s Walk: May 7–9

Jane’s Walks are continuing to explore Toronto neighbourhoods and communities with virtual walks, panel discussions, film screenings, self-guided tours and many more activities on the May 7–9 weekend.

You can join the launch of the festival on May 7 at 7 p.m. (RSVP at Eventbrite.)

May 7, 12–1:15 p.m.
Jane Jacobs’ Fight Continues! Spontaneous Order vs Utopian Urban Planning
Exploring Jane Jacob’s conception of spontaneous order and her fight against utopian planners in New York City, as well as the lessons today’s urbanists can draw from her ideas and her experiences.

Culture and Access as We Open Back Up
How can we open with better access and equity in mind, using creative ideas to more inclusive for a wider community.

Path of Least Resistance: Following the Flow of Water through High Park
Starting at a high point just outside of High Park, following Wendigo Creek down to Grenadier Pond and ending where the pond makes its way to Lake Ontario.

Mapping Marasha district in Plovdiv, Bulgaria
An international walk: the past, present and future of Marasha, focusing on the condition of the surrounding areas, streets and inter-block spaces.

A love-letter to the vibrant culture and rich history of West Queen West, Ossington and Trinity Bellwoods Park.

Public Art is Back at Guild Park!
A live tour (via Google Meet) exploring the recent arrival of art and artifacts to the grounds of Guild Park and Gardens in East Toronto, atop the Scarborough Bluffs.

How to Feel Good with “OK Sense”
Walking meditation and talking about topics suggested by attendees.

May 8, 2 p.m.
Turn it Up: The past, present and future of Toronto’s live music ecosystem
Examining the recent history and current state of Toronto music venues through a policy and planning lens.
Led by Ryan Taylor and Michelle Rowland

May 8 and 9, 2–3 p.m.
Banting and Best Insulin Discovery Tour
A walk beginning at the Donnelly Building at College and University and ending at the Toronto General Hospital and the MARS building.
Led by Peter Kopplin, Toronto Medical Historical Club

May 9, 10:30–11:30 a.m.
History by the Park
A guided walking tour of the High Park North neighbourhood and the stories of early residents of the area.
