THINGS TO DO

July 6–15: Upstream Downtown play at St. Vladimir

Upstream Downtown is running at St. Vladimir Theatre, 620 Spadina Ave., during the Toronto Fringe Festival.

The play follows feminist narratives of salmon and human relationships in the Toronto area, directed by Dora award-winning actress and playwright Martha Ross, and created and performed by Morgan Johnson and Alexandra Simpson.

In Upstream Downtown, the world is experienced through the bodies of Sojo and Beagle, who have been evicted from their watery dwelling and must play play their very best “human” in order to survive in a human-dominated world. All the while they continue to search for home, food, room (or reproductive) mates, and a bit of multispecies love.

It’s a co-production between Animacy Theatre Collective and multiple Dora award-winning company Common Boots Theatre.

Performances are on July 6 at 6:45 pm., July 7 at 1:45 p.m., July 8 at 3:30 p.m., July 9 at 1 p.m., July 11 at 7:30 p.m., July 12 at 11 p.m., and July 15 at 4:30 p.m. The July 9 event will be a “relaxed performance.”
