March 2: Five different flutists ‘encircle the world’

North Wind Concerts brings together five contrasting flutists from different cultures in the opening concert of a series, titled Encircling the World.

It takes place March 2, 7:30 p.m. at the Heliconian Hall, 35 Hazelton Ave., in Yorkville.

Five Toronto-based artists will perform solo selections on instruments representing their cultures, and join one another in various combinations of prepared and improvised selections. In between, they will talk about their music and their shared artistic experience, and engage with the audience in a Q&A session.

The artists come from the Hindustani, Chinese, Persian, Peruvian and early Western European traditions, and play flutes made of bamboo, various types of wood, and clay.

Tickets are $30, seniors $25, students and arts workers $20. They are available in advance online or at the door.

Further Information is on the Bemused Network website as well as at the North Winds website, or by email.
