CN Spurline trail a great new way to see Ward 25
[attach]5742[/attach]After an unusually mild winter, spring is officially here. I encourage all residents to make the most of this great weather and spend time outdoors enjoying Toronto’s many great park and trail systems, particularly the newly constructed CN Spurline trail, located in Ward 25.
This former stretch of railway, purchased by the city in 2003, provides a practical north-south connection for the ward. This multi-purpose trail stretches from Bond Park, south of York Mills Road, to the railway crossing just north of Eglinton Avenue East and is an ideal location for cyclists, joggers, and families who love to connect with nature.
This multi-use pathway will extend approximately 4 km across the Don Mills community and will connect with several existing bike paths and bicycle lanes. It consists of trail upgrades, new trail infrastructure and a number of trail amenities, and is a useful connection for cyclists in Ward 25. This path is a welcomed addition to the community’s urban landscape.
Although this trail is a work in progress, I have made considerable headway in finding a viable solution to connect the southern portion of the site with Leslie Street, and have worked with the immediate property owners to secure this connection. We are also getting closer to securing an extension for the northern portion of the trail.
To celebrate this great addition to Ward 25’s infrastructure, I welcome all residents to participate in a Community Celebration on Sat., May 12 to commemorate and name this newly constructed trail. Please join us at the southern end of Bond Park, near the paved circle at the trail entrance at 10 a.m. Refreshments will be provided, after which we will walk the new trail together.
The unseasonably warm weather we have experienced recently has encouraged many families and friends to explore the path and enjoy the surrounding area. I invite all residents to venture outdoors to enjoy this new Ward 25 gem with me. This trail is sure to put Don Mills on the map as a great destination for outdoor fun.
