Same man sought in Leslieville break-ins as in west end

Businesses have been complaining of break-ins in the east-end Leslieville area since last weekend.

Now a possible suspect has been announced and it turns out to be a man police were already seeking after a series of break-ins the previous weekend in the west end’s Little Portugal and Brockton Village.

A Toronto man is being sought in connection with a series of break and enters on Queen Street East and in the Leslieville area between May 8 and May 10, police said in a news release today.

Two images were released of the man, one of which was the same photo as an image presented with a May 5 release on the west-end break-ins.

In both cases, police identified the wanted man as Wade Joshua Meyers, 41.

In the east end, most of the alleged break-ins took place on Queen Street East and in the Leslieville area.

Front glass windows and doors were smashed to gain entry to the premises and property stolen included cash, cigarettes  and lottery tickets.

On social media, shops on Queen have been reporting the break-ins, which have made their businesses even more precarious during these difficult days of health restrictions.

“After an incredibly hard week, the icing on the cake was a string of break ins in the area, our shop included,” the Side Kitchen at 1093 Queen St. E. posted on Instagram. “We’ll be closed a few extra days this week to regroup but will keep you posted on reopen date. To all the other businesses affected, I feel you.”

In response to a Streeter email query about the Leslieville businesses’ concerns on Tuesday, police media relations officer Const. Jenifferjit Sidhu said the lead investigator advised, “Officers are aware of the multiple break and enters that have occurred in the area.  At this time, this is an ongoing and active investigation.”

Police patrols and police presence in the  area were being increased, Sidhu said.

Similar  break-ins

At the end of today’s press release, police said of the suspect, “He is also wanted for multiple break and enters in 11 Division and 14 Division.”

In the west end, most of the break-ins took place on Dundas Street West and Ossington Avenue, according to the May 5 news release.

The means of entry and the goods taken were described identically as they were in the later release about the Leslieville break-ins.

Wade Joshua Meyers, 41, of Toronto, is wanted for multiple counts of breaking and entering, as well as multiple counts of failing to c0mply with a release order.
