Don Mills

Don Mills is a large residential community centered on the intersection of Don Mills Road and Lawrence Avenue East and covers an area of approximately 2,000 acres.

The area was one of North America’s first “new town” post-war residential developments and set the bar for suburban expansion and development over the course of the next half-century. The community was designed using a number of then-groundbreaking planning principles including the use of a greenbelt connected to the nearby ravine, pedestrian paths, “neighbourhood planning” which placed a school, church and park in each of the district’s quadrants and an adherence to modernist architecture.

Today, Don Mills is a diverse community home to families and working people. Detached homes are the norm here, but there are several apartment buildings and townhouses as well. The area is services by several bus routes and is home to the large Shops at Don Mills shopping center.
