A 22-year-old woman died Nov. 27 when she was struck by a fuel tanker making a right turn from Eglinton Avenue West onto southbound Bathrust Street. The woman was struck as she stood on the southwest corner.

Police say the driver was unaware he had hit the woman until a witness stopped him. The woman received life-threatening injuries and died at the scene.

One day earlier and just one kilometre away, an 85-year-old woman was crossing Elmsthorpe Avenue on the south side of Eglinton Avenue West two blocks west of Avenue Road, when she was struck by a Toyota Camry driven by a 95-year-old man.

Police say the Camry was turning left on to southbound Elmsthorpe when the woman was struck. The woman sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital, where she died Dec. 1.

The 22-year-old woman and the 85-year-old woman are the city’s 58th and 59th road fatalities in Toronto this year.
