Witnesses sought in violent incident
Police are investigating a violent sex assault that took place in a Casa Loma area park in late August.
Just after 11:15 p.m. on Aug. 27, a woman was in Nordheimer Park near Spadina Road and Russell Hill Drive when police say she was approached by a man and struck in the head multiple times with a blunt object.
Police say the attacker then sexually assaulted the woman and fled the scene on foot down through a ravine.
Detective Constable Elena Vander Meer said police were notified quickly.
“We were fortunate enough to have been called by a passerby,” she said. “That individual has become a witness to the assault.”
The victim suffered swelling to one side of her head around her ear, with multiple bruising, as well as cuts. As of Aug. 30, she was still in hospital and being monitored, said Vander Meer.
“I don’t know how many times (the woman was hit), but she was hit pretty badly,” she said. “Enough to cause severe injuries.”
Vander Meer said the woman is from the Toronto area, but declined to say whether she is resident of the neighbourhood where the assault took place.
The detective constable also declined to comment on whether there was a suspect three days after the incident
“We’re working on the investigation right now,” Vander Meer said. “That’s the extent of what I can say in terms of how far along we are.”
