Youths face murder charge

Police have charged three teens with the daytime murder of 19-year-old Bradley Matheson.

On Nov. 4, police announced that two 16-year-old and 15-year-old — all males — had each been charged with one count of second-degree murder related to the Oct. 14 shooting of Matheson inside the apartment building at 90 Eastdale Ave.

Officers who responded to the mid-afternoon shooting found Matheson in the sixth floor stairwell. He was pronounced dead at the scene with what police called apparent gunshot wounds to the body.

Matheson’s killing was Toronto’s 38th homicide in 2011, and the first this year to see youths facing a murder charge.

None of the accused can be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, which also sets the maximum penalty for a youth charged with second-degree murder at seven years.
