June 17: Strawberry social fundraiser at Grace Church

The Upper Canada Choristers and conductor Laurie Evan Fraser present a strawberry social fundraiser June 17, from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Parish Hall of Grace Church on-the-Hill, 300 Lonsdale Rd.

The afternoon features music, finger foods, strawberry shortcake and bubbly, and a cash bar.

This year the 40-member, mixed choir focuses on the perennially popular songs of George Gershwin and Cole Porter, with staged performances of some of their best-loved numbers.

Members of the choir will perform solos and small ensemble numbers. From Gershwin’s opera Porgy and Bess, audiences will enjoy “Bess You is My Woman Now,” “I Got Plenty of Nothin’” and “My Man’s Gone Now.” From Porter’s shows will come “Begin the Beguine,” “Let’s Do It,” and “Night and Day.”

The Choir will also sing a Gershwin in Love medley and the ensemble Cantemos will entertain with a group of Latin selections.

Tickets are $40 and may be reserved by calling 416-256-0510 or purchased at the door.
