Popular Greek restaurant closes its doors after 30 years

Popular Greek restaurant Pappas Grill has closed its doors after 30 years in the business.

Its window on Danforth Avenue now sports a For Lease sign. A listing for the space on Zolo.com has been up for five days, asking $55 per square foot for 3,000 sq. ft.

The restaurant, a staple in the community, was well known for its giant metal sign spelling out its distinctive name and for its casual dining serving innovative Greek and Mediterranean food.

LANDMARK: Pappas Grill was well-known to passersby for its name in huge metallic letters.

The menu, crafted over three decades, included pasta, seafood, steak, fish, chicken, burgers, and a wide range of home-made desserts and appetizers.

In its time Pappas Grill has also suffered its share of hardships. Two years ago, it was one of the victims of the mass shooting on Danforth when a man fired bullets across the Grill’s outside patio, as well as through its front door.

Pappas Grill survived that tragedy and returned to be open seven days a week.

Now it’s another restaurant in a long list of institutions that will not be reopening after the COVID crisis has passed.

The restaurant owners could not be reached for a comment.
