Grill shoots an ace
Almost 130 people turned out at the Whistler’s Grille 18th annual golf tournament at the Angus Glen Golf and Country Club, which raised $17,000 for its charitable partner Canadian Feed the Children.
Managing director of the Broadview Ave. restaurant, Steven Mastoras, said it was the most money by far the event has ever raised for a charity.
“Everyone was ecstatic,” Mastoras said several days after the Aug. 8 event.
He credits this year’s resounding success to the fundraising expertise and support of the Canadian Feed the Children staff and to strategic decisions like raising the ticket price and holding the event at a prestigious golf course.
And given today’s challenging economic climate, Mastoras says the event’s success was all the more poignant.
“I know of several people that cancelled their tournaments this year,” he said. “It’s always a challenge.”
Whistler’s has been family-owned and operated by Mastoras and his folks for 28 years. The restaurant does regular fundraising events for local charities like the East York Rotary club and more.
