12 candidates in race for Ward 16

The race to replace Karen Stintz as councillor of Ward 16 remains one of the four highest-contested council races in Toronto as the time to register winds down.

Gary Heaney became the 11th candidate on Aug. 22, followed by Sean Conacher becoming the 12th five days later.

Former Stintz senior advisor (in her role as TTC chair) J.P. Boutros, aerospace project manager Christin Carmichael Greb, fire and security officer Michael Coll, financial planner Charm Darby, former engineer and patent attorney Thomas Gallezot, urban planner Terry Mills, direct mail business owner Paul Spence, municipal lawyer Adam Tanel, software developer Peter Vukosavljev, and lawyer and legal studies professor Dyanoosh Youssefi are also vying to be the replacement for Stintz, who served 11 years in the Eglinton-Lawrence ward.

Sept. 11 is the deadline for candidates signing up or withdrawing.

Among the other heavily contested wards is the Trinity-Spadina ward formerly held by Adam Vaughan, which has 26 candidates.

Outgoing councillor Doug Ford’s Etobicoke ward has 14 and Pam McConnell’s Toronto Centre has 13.
