Mark your Calendar for Nov. 7. ARECA will be holding its annual general meeting and community meeting at the North Toronto Community Centre, 200 Eglinton Ave. West at 7 p.m. All are welcome. Refreshments will be served.

Community Environment Days
There was another successful environment day at the North Toronto Memorial Arena. Residents did their part to create a cleaner, greener and more liveable Toronto. Recently, at city council local councillors Josh Matlow and Josh Colle voted to keep days, but Karen Stintz voted against retaining them. If you disagree with Stintz be sure to let her know these community environment days should not be cut.

Development and Intensification
Our area continues to attract developers and there are a number of projects in the pipeline. The proposed re-development of the St Margaret’s Church site at Burnaby Boulevard and Avenue Road is headed for the OMB. Likewise, the Premium Properties site at Eglinton and Duplex avenues has been scheduled for the OMB in April 2012.

We are meeting with the owners of development sites to ensure there is credible community input. ARECA believes there should be a Midtown Plan with a comprehensive vision for Yonge/Eglinton growth centre and the intersection. To this end, we are working with like-minded local residents and organisations.

Councillor Karen Stintz recently voted to kill the Neighbourhood Realm Improvement Plan, which gives small amounts of money to community-generated beautification projects. ARECA believes these small funds provided to volunteers benefit our community.

ARECA is awaiting a response to its request for a proper traffic study for the Orchardview/Duplex area. A park safety audit for Eglinton Park has been initiated and we are working with local police to curb racing on local streets.
