Australian rugby legend visits midtown kids

Toronto City Rugby youth league taught basics of the sport

Toronto City Rugby was visited by rugby royalty April 28, as Qantas Wallabies star Matt Burke shared the basics of the sport with the youth league’s four teams.

The league’s four age groups, Under-8, Under-10, Under-12 and Under-14, were practising at Proctor Field, York University’s Glendon Campus grounds. Burke played team-building games and help the kids understand the proper mechanics of a rugby pass.

Burke was in town for the Rugby Alliance, an annual clinic that teaches kids 8 to 18 the basics of the game, at Downsview Park.

Also in attendance was Al Charron, a stalwart flanker for the Canadian National Team from 1990 to 2003.
