Sliders go beyond just hamburgers
[attach]6632[/attach]Rich Lee is bringing a different take on sliders to the Danforth.
Rather than focusing solely on mini hamburgers, the soon-to-be opened Slider Revolution has a variety of options like meatball, prime rib and pulled pork sliders.
“I wanted to do something unique,” Lee says. “When people think of sliders they just think of little hamburgers — there’s enough hamburger places in the city so I knew that’s not something I wanted to do. We thought we can do non-traditional sliders, a little take off the street food and the food truck scene.”
After roughly a year in the making, Lee plans to have Slider Revolution open later this month on Danforth Avenue near Pape Avenue.
Although he took over the space from the now closed Three’s Company, Carolyn Hogg, former co-owner of the café and catering company, will join him at the new restaurant.
“When we were first looking at this location we ended up talking to the two owners here and one of them was definitely going to retire but [Hogg] said she didn’t want to stop, she wanted to keep going,” he says.
“I actually wanted to keep this concept a secret until we opened but I shared it with her and we hit it off a little bit so I brought her on to join the company.”
As the spot was a popular brunch destination, Lee plans to continue the tradition and serve up breakfast fare during the weekend, which will incorporate a sliders theme.
“For example, eggs benedict already seems like it’s an open faced slider anyway,” he says. “With some of the items like pancakes we’re going to have mini pancakes and then layer those with some pulled pork and maple syrup so it’s incorporating the brunch into the slider theme.”
As for his favourite dish, while he likes them all, the pulled pork with their signature slaw tops his list, he says.
“Here you get to mix and match, you get to chose what you want,” he says. “We’re going to have a lot of variety so you can try a whole bunch of different things that appeal to your palette or if you like one more than the others and you want to order four or five of the same ones, by all means.”
