City clears way for construction of new business park in Leaside

A new Leaside business park can begin construction, after city council voted on May 6 to amend an outdated zoning bylaw that had halted proceedings on half the site.

Located along 201–209 Wicksteed Ave., half of Wicksteed Business Park will be taken by Canada Post’s new 33,000 square-foot distribution centre. The remaining land will include two two-storey buildings with 48 commercial units in front, and a three-storey building with 78,000 square feet of self-storage space in the back.

Under a 1963 Leaside zoning bylaw, the site is considered “general industrial zone,” which allows warehousing and self-storage on the site, but not business or professional office use.

Last year city council passed a new zoning bylaw to consolidate land-use bylaws for all of Toronto’s former municipalities, but it is still at the appeals stage.
