Close call for customer at Mr. Sub

It was a chaotic scene of crushed concrete and smashed glass today at a Mr. Sub restaurant on Dufferin Street south of Lawrence Avenue.

A black Chevrolet Cobalt, travelling south on Dufferin, swerved to avoid a left-turning vehicle and careened into the front door of the restaurant, according to witnesses.

“I feel pretty shaken up,” said the driver of the other car. He declined to give his name.

The driver of the Cobalt was seen walking around following the crash. Onlookers speculated he hadn’t been seriously hurt.

“He was conscious and breathing, so it doesn’t appear to be serious,” police constable Isabella Cotton said. Police received the call at 1:29 p.m.

No injuries were reported from the restaurant either, though for one patron it was a dangerously close call.

“A customer was sitting 20 centimetres from the door,” said Dimitri Lichnev who owns the restaurant at 2928 Dufferin St. “It’s a little bit too much.”

Toronto Police Traffic Services are investigating the crash.
