Davenport riding is three-way race

With Liberal MPP Ruprecht not running, door opens for candidates

Davenport is wide open now that longtime Liberal incumbent Tony Ruprecht has announced he will not be seeking re-election this fall.

Ruprecht’s retirement opens the door for Liberal Cristina Martins who has spent the past 15 years in the quality assurance stream of the health care sector.

She is also the president of the Federation of Portuguese Canadian Business & Professionals and is a Director of the Greater Toronto Business Association and the European Union Chamber of Commerce in Toronto.

Martins will square off against NDP candidate Jonah Schein. Schein holds a Master’s degree in social work from York University and has worked on social issues in the Davenport area through The Stop Community Food Centre. He also ran for city council in Ward 19 in 2010.

Progressive Conservative candidate Kirk Russell campaigned to be Ward 18’s councillor last fall, but now has his sights set on Queen’s Park. Russell is a former carpenter and currently owns a construction company.
