Elderly man dies following Bayview crash

Police say 89-year-old ran red light before striking other motorist

An 89-year-old man has died after police say he ran a red light and crashed into another vehicle on Bayview Avenue in mid-August.

On Aug. 16, the elderly man was driving a Mercedes 350 southbound through the intersection, disobeying a red light police say. He then crashed into a BMW X5 that was turning onto Bayview out of the Granite Club just north of Lawrence Avenue East.

The man was taken to hospital where he died Aug. 25.

Police did not provide the condition of the driver of the BMW X5 or whether either vehicle had any passengers.

This is the 40th fatal traffic collision in Toronto this year.
